Study Task 1 & 2 - Why Am I Here - What do I want to Learn?






Identify and explain 5 reasons why you chose to study on this programme.

1. I chose to be on this course due to its high achieving reputation. 
2. I chose the programme because of the good vibe I picked up when I visited the college. I instantly new where I wanted to be and that is quite a comforting feeling when choosing where to study.
3. The studio space and the college facilities were top of the range and I liked the fact that you didn't have to fight for a space in the studio due to it being a small class of people. 
4. The work both on the open day and in the college Prospectus was impressive and was the type of work that interested me. 
5. I wanted a change of lifestyle so being located in a city was important, I also came for the local exciting music scene.

Identify and explain 5 things that you want to learn during your time on the programme.

1. I want to learn a range of professional skills that could lead me into a job in the industry. This includes being taught a new way of forward thinking as well as knowledge of business and enterprise opportunities. 
2. I want to learn the craft of screen printing whilst I have everything I need at my reach because it is expensive to set up by yourself.
3. I want to learn how to promote and brand myself.
4. I would like to learn how to get the best finish when producing my final ideas. This includes paper stock, the craft of folding and learning how to manage files to make life easier.
5. I would like to learn how to build a website.

Identify and explain 5 skills that you think are your strengths.

1. My strengths as a designer would be my image making skills. Over the past three years of studying graphic design from BTEC level, that has always been my strong point. 
2. I am good at social media and blogging as it is one of the main sources of inspiration I have for my work. It also helps you get your work out there so you can build up contacts.
3. I am open minded to new things and I am not scared to step out of my comfort zone.
4. I have always had an interest in photography, and this is a skill that I am confident enough to use and apply to my work. 
5. I have good software knowledge in Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Identify and explain 5 things that you want to improve.

1. The finish of my final work needs improving, for example I sometimes struggle with choosing the right paper stock for my final piece. 
2. I need to be more confident at presenting to a large group of people. I hope to do this because confidence is the key for getting a good job in industry.
3. My blogging and writing skills, I sometimes think my literacy skills let me down due to my dyslexia. 
4. As always my time management skills aren't always to the standard I want them to be.
5. I want to improve my grid and layout skills as I haven't explored that side of design much recently.

Identify and explain 5 ways that you will evaluate your progress.

1. Group crits.
2. Asking your tutors and peers opinions.
3. Posting work online and asking for feedback.
4. Complete evaluations after each project.
5. Email work to people in the industry and ask for feedback.

Identify 5 questions that you want to find the answer to.

1. How do you build a website?
2. How can I get a work placement?
3. Is my work good enough?
4. What if I run out of money to print work off?
5. How do I promote myself?

Identify and explain 5 things that inspire you.

1. I am inspired by the buzz of the studio as it is filled with like minded people and we all push each other to do well.
2. I am inspired by music and how different it can make you feel. I always stick on something motivational when I am trying to complete a design.
3. I am inspired by blogs and design books, as a lot of my inspiration comes from these two sources.
4. I am inspired by craftsmanship as you can see the hard work that has gone into a piece of art.
5. I am inspired by simple home cooked food that gives you an extra boost at the end of a hard day.
